Belt PRCA Rodeo Back for 55th Year

Posted: Updated:

Started in 1955, the Belt Rodeo continues to be one of the best small town rodeos on the Montana pro rodeo circuit.

"It's fun for them to come out and see mud flying for the bull riding and bronc and just have some time in the sun realizing with the family."

"The fans that come out here love to watch them guys and this is one of the close ones for all of them to get into and it's the first one of the season for the pro rodeo circuit here in Montana," said Clancy Sieverson, Little Belt Cowboys Association President.

Normally boasting high caliber contestants, this year is no exception, some of which are local household names.

"We got some good guys coming. Jesse Kruse he's healed up - world champion out of Great Falls. Tyrell Smith (Cascade) he's entered in the saddle bronc riding. Jessy Davis (Power) in the bareback riding so we have a lot of local guys that have been in the NFR and what not and they're coming to Belt," said Sieverson.

And there's a brand new event that will be in Belt too. For the first time in Belt rodeo history, kids will have a chance to show off their Mutton riding skills in between rodeo performances.

"Yeah, kids have to be under 50 pounds and they can come get on a shape and gets taste of the arena. Competition out there and like we always say -it's our future world champions," said Sieverson.

With plenty to do for family and friends, the rodeo makes for a good time and it also makes for a good cause.

"We make enough money we give a scholarship to a graduating senior going onto school and there are some organizations doing the same thing. So, for the community, it's a big thing. It's the biggest event in Belt, Montana for the whole year,"said Sieverson.

It's been that way for 54 years and this weekend marks number 55. 55 and counting.
