Carroll Confirms AD Apsey Takes Same Job at Boise State

(Saints Athletics) - Carroll College confirms that Curt Apsey has accepted the position of Director of Athletics at Boise State University.

“Boise was home to our family for 16 years, we raised our daughters there and we are part of so much that happened in the rise of the Boise State athletic department as a whole,” Apsey said. “We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Montana and Carroll will always have a special place in our hearts, but this was an unprecedented opportunity to go back to a place we consider home and it's an opportunity that doesn't happen to a lot of people.”

Apsey has been at Carroll College since October of 2014, and although his time at Carroll has been brief, he has made significant contributions to the athletic program. Under his guidance, the college launched a new website,, that recently was named the best website in the NAIA. As well, Apsey brokered a partnership through BSN SPORTS to have Nike be the official apparel and equipment provider for all 15 Fighting Saints athletic teams. In addition, he was successful in obtaining associate membership in the Cascade Collegiate Conference for Carroll's soccer and softball programs. He has also been active in developing a new strategic plan for the department to help guide the program moving forward. Under Apsey's leadership, Carroll College was awarded the Frontier Conference's Bandy All-Sports Award and their nearly 400 student-athletes had an impressive overall combined GPA of 3.24.

“Our president, Tom Evans, and the athletic staff and faculty at Carroll are a big part of what makes this such a special place,” Apsey said. “They all put an enormous amount of time and effort into making things better here. The new website, our agreement with Nike, our inclusion in the Cascade Conference, the sponsorship sales agreement with the Independent Record and the new strategic plan are all things that will improve the student-athlete and fan experience for years to come. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish in a short amount of time and a lot of the credit goes to everyone on campus.”

Additionally, with Apsey at the helm, Carroll's coaches have been able to recruit an outstanding number of exceptional new student-athletes.

“The coaches at Carroll are among the best in the country,” Apsey said. “They recruit great kids that want to win, but more importantly, they do the work in the classroom. The student-athlete GPA at Carroll is out of this world and that doesn't come at the expense of success on the field.”

Prior to arriving at Carroll, Apsey had been with Boise State University for 16 years serving as the senior associate athletic director for the past nine years. Before Boise, Apsey served as Assistant Director of Athletics at CSU San Bernardino for four years and Assistant Director of Development at CSU Bakersfield for four years. Boise State University is a Division I program in the Mountain West Conference.

“We knew we had an excellent candidate when we selected Curt to be our AD last fall. Because of his extraordinary vision, leadership and energy this past year, our athletic program is on very firm footing and moving forward,” said Dr. Tom Evans, president of Carroll College. “We are truly grateful for his work and wish him and his wife, Teresa, the very best as they return to Boise.”

A transition plan is currently being developed. Kyle Baker, Chief of Staff, will serve as Interim Director of Athletics while the college evaluates the appropriate timing of a search and subsequent hire of a new athletic director.
