Great Falls 12 Year-Old Soccer Phenom Selected for Olympic Development Camp

"He's got amazing foot speed, he's got an amazing way he reads the game and a lot of his skill set is just so advanced for his age, " Ian Deal, soccer trainer and Electric City Soccer Club director of coaching.

He may be just 12 years old, but Great Falls soccer phenom Gavin Groshelle has the potential to someday represent his country as a member of Team USA soccer.

"I've said by the age of 16 I want him in a national jersey so that I can have one signed on my wall and that's the game for the next four years to get him in a national jersey." said Deal.

But before that, Gavin has to prove himself on a regional level. And he'll have a chance to do so next week at the Northwest regional olympic development camp in Oregon.

"I'd like to show what I have at the regional camp and hopefully make it to the national camp or even the national team for younger kids," said Groshelle.

Only 100 players out of the 13 states in the Northwest are invited to the Olympic regional camp. Gavin is one of them, because he's a very gifted player who works hard, training three hours a day nearly seven days a week.

"I love soccer. I'm always out here and I just love to play," said Groshelle.

"I think half the drive or in any sport - you have to be passionate. You have to be willing to dedicate yourself to that sport. And he trains every day and he trains hard and he trains professionally which for me is half of it," said Deal.

The other half might be skill, which is something Gavin has. He's also a leader, which is a credit to his maturity.

"He used to lead the team out in the dynamic warm up which is quite hard obviously because he was the youngest on the team and they were a few years older so for them to respect him in that way and allow him to lead it out just shows he's an example to even the older kids," said Deal.

Gavin has impressed Great Falls with his play. Next up is the Northwest region. And hopefully someday, the entire country.
