Iskenderian Ready to Step in For Brewers Following Promotions

Posted: Updated:
HELENA -

It's been six days since George Iskenderian signed with the Milwaukee Brewers and was assigned to Helena, which is a bit change from the University of Miami.

"I kind of had an idea," said Iskenderian. "I wasn't sure, but I had an idea I was coming here."

Iskenderian was a 7th round pick for Milwaukee and a key member of the Hurricanes baseball team, which recently played in the College World Series. So let's just say he's not afraid of the big stage.

"Playing in front of that many fans helps a lot," said Iskenderian. "You can talk about it all you want, but once you experience it it's completely different. There's 25,000 people in the stands, and you can just eliminate everything besides the game."

"You've already had to deal with pressure," said Helena Brewers manager Tony Diggs. "And that's the biggest thing about this game. If you can deal with pressure and you can keep an even keel, then you're able to do that on a daily basis."

Playing in the World Series caused Iskenderian to sign with Milwaukee late, but he's become an immediate starter at second base with the promotion of Blake Allemand.

"Just enjoy it as much as I can, learn as much as I can," said Iskenderian. "Obviously we have a great coaching staff with big league experience. So I'm just nitpicking and learning from everyone, and trying to get better every day."

"I'm not looking for him to bring something different, I'm looking for him to enhance what we've already started," said Diggs. "We've been doing a lot of things solidly. What he brings to the table is that extra advantage that we can continue that and make sure that continues on."

With yesterdays promotions of Ponce and Allemand, the Brewers have proven they're willing to promote their players quickly. So even with his late arrival, Iskenderian's experience in college should help his transition, and hopefully help him move up quickly.
