Carroll Football Adds Assistant Coaches

Posted: Updated:

Carroll College head football coach Mike Van Diestannounced the addition of two new coaches to his staff for the 2015 football season.  Travis Andrus will coach running backs for the Saints and Marcus Mayo will coach the cornerbacks.

"The success that we have enjoyed here in Saints Football is directly related to the players and the assistant coaches that work hard day in and day out," Van Diest said. "That is why I am very excited to announce the addition of Marcus and Travis to the 2015 Football Staff, they are young, energetic, and very knowledgeable about the game of football. They are a great fit to Carroll College, and I am very honored to be working alongside of these two young men."

Mayo joined the Saints for spring practice but spent 2014 at the South Dakota School of Mines, a NCAA DII program in Rapid City S.D., where he worked as the Assistant Defensive Backs coach.

Before his time at the School of Mines, Mayo spent three seasons coaching high school football in Missoula at Hellgate and Sentinel High Schools. He also spent two seasons as the video coordinator and student assistant at Rocky Mountain College.

Andrus brings a coaching pedigree to the running backs coach position. His father Bart has over three decades of coaching experience in the college and professional ranks. Travis began his coaching career with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2009 before joining his father on the staff of the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks.

In 2014 Andrus worked as the linebackers and assistant special teams coach at Feather River Community College in Northern California.

The two coaches join former starting center and team captain Alex Kastens as the three new additions on the staff. The Saints open the season against the defending NAIA National Champion Southern Oregon Raiders on Sept. 5th.
