Griz Anxious to Get Going in Fall Camp

Posted: Updated:

With fall camp on the horizon, first year Griz head coach Bob Stitt is plenty excited after the spring…but does realize there are plenty of unknowns with the team.
"You can go through spring ball with a new program, and we have no clue where we stand amongst FCS programs and in our league, so I just want to line up against somebody else," said Bob Stitt.
While the media attention for coach Stitt has been much more in Montana than at Colorado School of Mines, so has the fan base, something he's quickly become a fan of-after traveling the state during the summer.
"Griz Nation is strong, and passionate, and cannot wait until football season.  I don't know how many times I heard 'I wish the summer would just go away so we can get to the season' and I say 'wait a second, we need to take a little time here' but it was fun.  We went over 4,000 miles this spring all over the state, and met a lot of great people and a lot of great fans."
One of the key storylines heading into fall camp is the quarterback battle.  Junior Brady Gustafson appeared to be the clear front-runner out of the spring, but Stitt wants to see more out of all of his quarterbacks.
"We're going to scrimmage about 5-6 days in, and we need to separate 3 guys.  We can't be repping 5 guys all fall camp.  We'll need to find a 1, a 2, and a 3 quarterback who will get a few reps and the others will have to watch.  Spring ball is for reps, not fall camp.  So they need to be ready."
His first off-season with plenty of traveling to meet Griz alum across the state, and countless recruiting trips…as the season approaches, coach Stitt remains calm, without any hint of stress.
"I think it's the easiest part of the year because it's so structured.  You know exactly what you're doing on a daily basis, and it's not as busy.  The recruiting, you never get away from it, but it slows down a bit in the fall, so I really enjoy football season, and really enjoy knowing what we have going every day of the week, and I can't wait to get going."
