CMR Defender Signs with UGF Soccer

First-year University of Great Falls men’s soccer coach Joseph Yeisley has announced his initial recruiting class as practices begin this week at Siebel Soccer Park.

The 10-player recruiting class includes goalkeepers Tom Chesterman and Marc Girones, defenders Sam Howard, Cole Myers, Oskar Waldebrink and Edgar Ortiz, midfielders Luis Macias and Christian Esparza, and forwards Mohamed Oulare and Ian Ooko.

Chesterman (GK; York, England; Anoka-Ramsey Community College) comes to UGF from Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minnesota.  He played two seasons for Head Coach Brady Eichhorn-Hicks at ARCC in-between the pipes.
Chesterman plans on majoring in athletic training at the University of Great Falls.
“Tom was a great pick-up for us,” Yeisley said. “He will give us some much needed depth at the goalkeeper position and should push returner, Henrik Sohn, for some playing time.”

Macias (MF; Las Vegas, Nev.; Canyon Springs High School) comes to UGF from Canyon Springs High School and the Downtown Las Vegas soccer club. He was coached by Camilo Valencia in the club and had much success winning multiple tournaments.

Macis plans to major in criminal justice at UGF.

“We are excited that Luis has decided to join us at the University of Great Falls,” Yeisley said. “He is a technical midfielder with a lot of potential. Once Luis adjusts to the physicality and speed of the game in college I think he is going to have a solid career at UGF.”

Oulare (F; Rockville, Md.; Montgomery Community College) comes to UGF from Montgomery Community College, where he played for Head Coach Pedro Braz for two seasons. During his time at Montgomery, Oulare helped lead his team to consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances and garnered multiple awards including making the NJCAA National Tournament Team. 

He intends to major in social sciences at the University of Great Falls.

“I am excited that Mohamed is coming to UGF,” Yeisley said. “He is an excellent forward capable of producing a lot of goals. We expect him to score some big goals for us this year.”

Ooko (F; Rockville, Md.; Montgomery Community College) comes to UGF with teammate Mohamed Oulare from Montgomery Community College.  He played up top for Head Coach Pedro Braz during his two seasons and is expected to do the same for the Argos. 

Ooko wants to major in physical education at the University of Great Falls.

“We are excited to have Ian joining us,” Yeisley said. “He is a strong forward and has the ability to be a game changer when he is focused. I am excited to see what he can do at UGF.”

Howard (D; Apple Valley, Calif.; Victor Valley Community College) comes to UGF from Victor Valley Community College, where he played for Head Coach Mike Bradbury for two seasons. During his time at Victory Valley, Howard won multiple awards including All-Conference and Team MVP.

Sam intends to major in business.

“I am thrilled that Sam has chosen to attend UGF,” Yeisley said. “He is a terrific defender and great communicator. We expect him to be a difference maker in our backline right away.”

Esparza (MF; Victorville, Calif.; Victor Valley Community College) comes to UGF with teammate Sam Howard from Victor Valley Community College.  He played two seasons in the midfield for Head Coach Mike Bradbury and also spent this last year as a student assistant coach for the program.

Esparza plans to major in business at the University of Great Falls.

“Christian was a solid commitment for us this year,” Yeisley said. “He is a very strong defensive midfielder that has the ability to make plays offensively as well. We are excited to see what Christian can bring to the team this year.”

Myers (D; Great Falls, Mont.; Charles M. Russell High School) comes to UGF from C.M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Mont He played as a center back for the Rustlers and is expected to do the same for the Argos.  He also competed for Montana United under former Argo Head Coach, Paul Zazenski.

Myers intends to major in business at the University of Great Falls.

“We are happy that Cole has chosen to attend UGF,” Yeisley said. “He is an athletic defender with a lot of potential. I believe he will benefit greatly from the competition around him at UGF. Once he makes the adjustment to the college game, we expect him to have a solid collegiate career.”

Waldebrink (D; Sweden; Vaxjo Fria Gymnasium) comes to UGF as an international recruit from Sweden.  He played center back for his club teams in Sweden and is expected to do the same for the Argos. 

Waldebrink intends to major in business at the University of Great Falls.

“Oskar came highly recommended, and after reviewing his film we could easily say that he had all the abilities needed to succeed at this level,” Yeisley said. “I think he will be a great fit for the program and we expect big things from him throughout his career.”

Ortiz (D; Long Beach, Calif.; El Camino-Compton Center) comes to UGF from El Camino College – Compton Center in California.  He played two seasons in the backline for Head Coach Jose Garcia, where he was an All-Conference performer at left back.

Edgar intends to major in business at the University of Great Falls.

 “I am excited to have Edgar joining us at UGF,” Yeisley said. “He is a tremendous left back that will really give us consistency at that position. On top of that he is a great person and a terrific leader. I expect him to have a very productive career here.”

Girones (GK; Barcelona, Spain; ESERP Business School) comes to UGF as an International recruit from Spain.  He grew up training in the academies in Spain and has competed against such clubs as Barcelona and Real Madrid. 

He intends to major in business at the University of Great Falls. 

“We are really excited to have found Marc this late in the summer,” Yeisley said. “He came to us with a lot of great credentials and after reviewing his film we could quickly see that he had many of the tools necessary to be a successful goalkeeper in our system.  He will give us some much needed depth at the goalkeeper position and should push returner, Henrik Sohn, for some playing time.”
