CMR Football Star Andrew Grinde Commits to Yale University

Posted: Updated:

2014-2015 Montana Gatorade Player of the Year award winner Andrew Grinde has scored countless touchdowns on the football field.

But Grinde, always a step ahead of everyone else, is using his success on the gridiron to help him score in life. Today, he announced he will be attending one of the most prestigious schools in the country, Yale University.

"Weight off my shoulders of course. All year you think where you're going to go and what you're going to do when you're there and you hope it's a good school that will impress people. And Yale I think impressed my parents and that's the big goal. I just want to make them happy and I think I did it with Yale," said Andrew Grinde.

He sure did. Parents are always proud of their kids but this accomplishment is in a class of its own.

"He worked very hard for this. He works hard every day. He works hard in the gym, he works hard in the classroom, he works hard on the field, he works hard on the farm. I'm really really proud of him for reaching his full potential and taking this opportunity to go to an Ivy League school like Yale. It's the hard way - it'd be a lot easier to stay in state but he's a good boy and I'm rally proud of him," said Andrew's father, Jerry Grinde.

"Wow. I'm really proud of him, definitely. It's very exciting, a very big opportunity for him and you know when he was a baby you have no idea what they're going to grow up and be but I'm very proud of both my kids. So I'm excited for him but I will miss him because that's along ways away," said Andrew's mother, Cyndy Grinde.

Grinde could've stayed close to home like Mom wanted. He received offers from both the Cats and the Griz but turned them down to go Ivy League. The acceptance rate at Yale is just above 6 percent. But with a 4.0 GPA, Grinde was accepted and at that point, Yale was a no brainer.

"I'm going to miss Montana. It's been good to me and I wouldn't doubt me coming back or buying a cabin at least because it's awesome and I've been to the east coast and I'd say I like Montana more but I just want a new opportunity," said Grinde.

He won't be heading East just yet. It's a scary thought for opposing teams but  Grinde still has a full season left at CMR where he plans on adding one more thing to his already impressive resume.

"I'm just going in to hopefully win the state championship because we've been close twice now and it's frustrating and hopefully just have another good year," said Grinde.

And then it's off to Yale, a school that ranks top 3 in the country and a football program that finished 3rd in the Ivy League last year and figures to get even better now that one of Montana's top players is headed it's way.

KFBB is receiving reports that a presidential plane has landed in Great Falls at the Montana Air National Guard. It is unclear what exactly the plane is doing at MANG, although it is suspected the plane could be apart of the President's fleet and there wasn't room at the Missoula International Airport for the entire fleet to land.  Our Ricky Blackburn is currently on the scene at the airport, and is working to bring us more information as it becomes available.
