Griz WR Henderson Given Waiver from NCAA to Play in 2015

Posted: Updated:

In 2013 there were few players in the country with Ellis Henderson's play making abilities. As a sophomore the Griz wide out had over 1000 yards and 14 touchdowns, but after struggling with sickness last season he quit the team and leave the school.

But yesterday was quite the day for Henderson, not because he had a 72 yard touchdown in the scrimmage but because he was cleared by the NCAA to get an academic waiver making him eligible to play football this season.

Henderson only played four games last year after dealing with sickness, both physical and mental as the wide receiver struggled with bouts of depression. He's has since returned to the team and is doing much better and he says there was no better feeling then hearing the good news from the NCAA.

"I called my mom and dad and talked to Jamaal right away and we announced it in the training room everyone gave me a big hug and has been very supportive I think everyone realizes how long this journey has been and we aren't at the end of the tunnel," said Henderson. "There is still a lot of work to do. That was the biggest thing when i went to coach Stitt's offense and it felt good and the sun was shining brighter the birds were chirpier louder and it was a good day."
