Helena, Capital Football Both Ready for Big Tests in Week 1

HELENA -

The Helena High Bengals had championship aspirations in 2014 until CMR took out Helena in the semi-finals. The Bengals had the top ranked defense last year, and the expectations are the same this year. Helena will have a tough test to start the year, which includes three of their first four games on the road, and a season opener in Kalispell against the defending state champions the Glacier Wolfpack.

"We've got a real tough road schedule all year," said Bengals head coach Tony Artnson. "We play Glacier on the road, CMR on the road, Skyview on the road, West on the road. So really to start this way on the road I think it's a very true test of figuring out right where we're at early in the year."

"We're excited to come out and see what we're made of right out of the gates," said Bengals senior wide receiver DJ Jenneskens. "They're going to be great competition, so we're excited to see how we hold up against them. Hopefully go out there and get a W."

The Capital Bruins also kick their season off this Friday as they play host to Billings West. Last season the Bruins finished with a rare losing season, but look to turn things around in Kyle Mihelish's first season as the head coach. Joining Mihelish in his first year will be senior quarterback Wyatt Duthie, who won the starting QB job in camp. But rather than being nervous for their first game, both are embracing it.

"We've been going long enough, and we've all spent a lot of time together, and we all understand each other pretty well," said Mihelish. "Myself and the staff, we've spent a lot of time together. The confidence level will be there, the excitement will be there, and obviously the nerves, but it's a football game."

"We were talking about that when he told me I got the starting job, just how it's going to be a debut for both of us," said Duthie. "Just got to set the tempo right, and get ready for a long season, and take care of business."
