Cascade Football Under New Leadership

Posted: Updated:

Meet the Cascade Badgers football team. Around 30 players turned out for football this season, about twice as many two years ago.

"It's nice seeing all the helmets, knowing that you actually have a break once in a while," senior Jagger Sensibaugh said.

That's a good thing, because new head coach Jay Fredrickson is...

"Oh man, that Fredrickson, he's one hard guy. He pushes you to your limits," senior quarterback Lane Spurzem explains.

Coach would agree. He describes himself as hard nosed, execution oriented, and last, but certainly not least, successful. As head coach at Ennis, Fredrickson's teams advanced to the 8-Man semis four years in a row, winning it all in 2013. He says his first order of business at Cascade was to get his players to believe winning is possible there too.

"Some of the challenges I've run into here is getting the kids to believe they can succeed. And, they can. You just have to not beat yourself."

Fredrickson will lean on his two senior captains, Jagger Sensibaugh and Lane Spurzem, to help get that message across.

"When you lose, people's heads get down, they don't want to hustle, they don't want to get back in the play. We just need to hit them in the back, tell them to get going, to do it again, we all make mistakes," Spurzem says.

Adds Fredrickson, "My goal is to be competitive in every game, and give ourselves an opportunity, and then build from there."

Into a team to reckon with in the always competitive Northern C.
