Saints Focusing on Improving, Not Southern Oregon in Practice

Posted: Updated:

The Carroll Saints are only four days away from what most would consider the game of the season when #4 Carroll hosts #1 Southern Oregon. Last season the Saints and Raiders squared off three times in which they split the regular season series 1-1, but the Raiders took out the Saints in the national quarterfinals in Helena last November. And as Carroll prepares this week for their top rival, it's all about staying focused.

"We are going to try and make a statement," said Saints senior quarterback Mac Roche. "Obviously anytime you play these guys you have to be 100% crisp. But as far as the rankings in preseason that really doesn't mean anything to us."

"It's nice that you finally get into game week, and it's nice that we had the first week of classes last week because I think think that took a lot of distraction away from the players," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "Now they're a little more focused on game week. Anytime, around the country, the first game brings out the best in everybody in terms of enthusiasm."
