Fugitive Captured and Taken Into Custody

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: The man law enforcement has been searching for in connection to a homicide in Great Falls is now in custody.

At 5:45 Wednesday evening, officers found 26-year-old Brandon Miesmer in a shed near a residence on the 6900 block of Black Sandy Loop in Helena, ending a three-day long manhunt.

According to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton, Miesmer was found after a member of the search team noticed an open door on a tool trailer. The SWAT Team and other local authorities were on scene when they entered the trailer and found what Dutton says was an exhausted Miesmer, who then surrendered to authorities.

"He was apprehended, exhausted. He did not resist arrest, he's dehydrated. He did not drink for three days. We did take him to St. Peter's hospital for medical attention," Dutton told KFBB.

Sheriff Dutton added that Miesmer was found about 1.5 miles away from the stolen car that he had abandoned on Monday. Miesmer will be held at the Lewis and Clark County Jail and is expected to appear in court Thursday morning.

Twenty-six-year-old Cody Bruyere of Great Falls was identified Wednesday afternoon as the victim of Sunday night's homicide. The Great Falls Police Department says he died from a gunshot wound to the head. Cascade County prosecutors have officially charged Miesmer with deliberate homicide in the shooting.

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night in front of the home where Bruyere was found dead. Family, friends, and neighbors say they wanted to honor the memory of Bruyere.

"Just his smile was infectious. He was just a young man who needed to be remembered tonight," said Luann Bruyere, who attended the vigil alongside Bruyere's father.

Initial reports into the KFBB newsroom state that the suspect in Sunday's Great Falls homicide, 26-year-old Branden Miesmer, has been captured by the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Department.

This has been confirmed by Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards.

Cascade County Prosecutors have charged 26-year-old Branden Miesmer with deliberate homicide, for allegedly shooting 26-year-old Cody Bruyere Sunday night. The incident occurred on the 700 block of 7th Street North in Great Falls

Bail has been set at $1.5 million. According to court documents, one man and one woman dropped Miesmer off at 711 7th Street North in Great Falls on Sunday, then left to get gas. When they returned to the home, they heard a single gun shot, Miesmer jumped back into the car and told them to drive.

After arriving in Helena Miesmer carjacked a second vehicle, which he later abandoned near Hauser Dam. Great Falls Police continues to investigate his death.

Court documents state there is reason to believe both the suspect and victim in this case have connections with the sales and trafficking of illegal drugs.
