Saints Ready to Renew Rivalry with Montana Tech

Posted: Updated:

The Carroll Saints football team opened it's season with a monumental win over top ranked Southern Oregon this past Saturday in Helena. Now it's back to the drawing board as they prepare for another rival: Montana tech.

Carroll's senior signal caller Mac Roche earned conference player of the week honors, but the Saints defense was the teams MVP, allowing only one touchdown to the Raiders offense on Saturday on the way to defeating the top ranked team, and defending national champs. The Griz did that too a few Saturday's ago at home against North Dakota State, before losing the following week to Cal Poly. So as much as they love celebrating the win over SOU Carroll says their focus is on heading to Butte to play Montana Tech.

"It's a lot similar," said Saints senior safety James Dowgin. "They were facing the national champs, we knocked off the national champs. So we just have to keep the energy up, and prepare like you're playing the best."

"We've got to put that game behind us," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "We can learn from it, it's like maturity. That's the biggest thing that we're trying to do. Then you look at a lot of the freshman and sophomores that played for the first time. They're still riding cloud nine, and they've got to come out and play another game. Some of these guys have never been to Butte. They don't know what that rivalry with Tech is like."
