Former NFL Players Sign Autographs for Youngsters in Havre

Posted: Updated:

It was a night a lot of young kids will never forget, a chance to meet several players who once suited up for NFL teams.

The Legends for Lights is a fundraiser that helps to raise money for the MSU-Northern Athletic Scholarship Foundation. As part of this years event, 30 former NFL players signed autographs for kids ages two to 16 at the Boys and Girls Club in Havre. The kids got to meet the players, hear stories from their playing days, and one even caught a pass from a former Detroit Lion. All the money raised from Thursday evening's event went to the scholarship foundation, and the former NFL veterans had lots of advice to share with the kids they had a chance to meet with.

"Believe in yourself, I mean, if you don't believe in yourself, nobody will. Set goals, have determination, excellence is not a mere moment in time, but a commitment to a way of life," former Griz, Cincinnati Bengal and Baltimore Raven Thatcher Szalay said.

Former Griz and 11 year NFL Veteran Mike Tillman added, "I hope they get to see a bunch of nice guys, there's about 30 of them and it's pretty cool."

And former Griz and Buffalo Bill Dylan McFarland said, "They (kids) want to know what it's like, what players are like, what guys are like, what kind of cars you drive, things like that. So it's a lot of fun."
