Carroll Defense Struggles Stopping Tech's Saraceni

Posted: Updated:

The Saints have had troubles stopping the run all year long, but Saturday may have been their toughest day yet. Early in yesterday's 42-7 loss to Montana Tech the Diggers lost starting quarterback Quinn McQueary to an injury, And with their second stringer Dawson Reardon not dressed were forced to rely on third stringer Andrew Loudenback. But even without the threat of a passing game, Saraceni still managed to get 273 yards on 24 carries.

"Well it doesn't make any difference who the quarterback is, he just hands the ball off," said Saints head coach Mike Van Diest. "So that doesn't make any difference. It's the offensive line blocking, and the defense not getting in their gap responsibilities. That's my responsibility, to put guys in the right positions. And if I'm not getting it done then we've got to look at some other alternatives. But we've got to give the kids a chance to play. It's out job to put them in the positions to make plays, and then when they're there they have to make the play."
