Argo Men Hit Century Mark in Win to Improve to 5-1

Posted: Updated:

It was a century mark game for UGF men’s basketball against Yellowstone Christian College, winning 101-51 against the Centurions.

The Argonauts ran the floor early and often against YCC, taking advantage of 25 Centurion turnovers and just 24 percent shooting from their opponent.

The first half was the better offensive period for YCC, shooting 32 percent, but they were still nowhere near the Argo’s 51 percent.

Sophomore guard Jarrett Givens had the hot hand in the first half, shooting 6-10 for a blazing first half point total of 16. The rest of the Great Fall’s offense was fairly balanced. Three different players finished with eight points in the first 20 minutes, while guards Sergio Berkley and Michael Harris combined for seven assists.

The second half was even more lopsided with UGF keeping the Centurion’s shooting to under 20 percent while continuing to make more than half of their own shots. Junior forward John Makker and senior guard Lamar Falley took advantage of their transition opportunities, each finishing with ten second half points.

Falley, who played his first minutes of the season for UGF, finished second on the team in both points, with 16, and assists, with 4. He was one of the reasons the Argos had one of their best games this year in terms of team passing. They finished the game with 22 assists, including seven from Berkley, who started at point guard.

The Argos out rebounded Yellowstone 50 to 34 and totaled 11 steals and four blocks. Despite leading in most statistical categories, UGF did struggle with fouls, getting into the double bonus in both halves. The team finished with 24 total personal fouls.

The win is the Argo’s fifth and brings them to 5-1. It also marks the last home game for UGF until January 9, 2016. Their next regulation game will be their first conference contest, a road game against Montana Western on December 3 at 7:30 p.m. Before that game, Great Falls will play two exhibitions against two Division I NCAA schools.
