Senior Standout 11/9: Capital's Will Hunthausen

Posted: Updated:

They call him "Will the Thrill," and they do so for two reasons: one, because it rhymes. Two because whenever Will Hunthausen touches the football, it's a safe bet it'll end in a big play.

"Will Hunthausen is a special player," said Capital Bruins head coach Kyle Mihelish. "You always talk about kids maybe you get every five to ten years, Will Hunthausen is one of those special kids."

This past season Hunthausen led all of Class AA in receptions with 70, breaking the Bruins single season record for catches which was previously held by former Bruin and Boise State star wide out Matt Miller.

"That was huge for me," said Hunthausen. "It felt really good just knowing how many good receivers have come through this school, names like Matt Miller. I mean it just feels good to know how many good receivers have comet through here."

"I texted Matt on Friday night, and he was happy for Will," said Mihelish. "You think about that record, and there's been a lot of good football players to come through Capital High school. It's a heck of an accomplishment."

But even Will will tell you that his record breaking catches don't come without a good quarterback. This year the Bruins started junior QB Carter Pappas, and Hunthausen made sure to do everything he could to help him succeed.

"He's definitely made it easier, made that transition easier, because I'm a junior, and he's kind of taken me under his wing and helped me along," said Pappas. "I always know he'll be open, and I can give him a shot and he'll win that one on one opportunity."

"He's been just getting better and better throughout the year," said Hunthausen. "It's been good knowing that I'm a senior, well I'm one of the seniors, helping him through the whole year."

Hunthausen had the game sealing touchdown in their round one win over Flathead, and will definitely be looking for another big night this Friday in the Bruins' semifinal match versus Senior.
