Saints Womens Soccer Prepares for Nationals

Posted: Updated:

This past weekend the Saints put the wraps on what's been an outstanding season. After taking the regular season conference crown and clinching a bid at nationals, they then won the Cascade Conference tournament as well. But now they turn their attention to their first round opponents, six seed, and fourth ranked the nation, Spring Arbor University in Michigan. And while their knowledge is limited about Spring Arbor, they feel they compare to Cascade Conference rival Eastern Oregon, who they beat in the conference title game.

"Nothing about them, but that's the best part is the little surprise element," said Saints junior defender Ylena Gazdik. "Hopefully we can put a little surprise element in there too. They don't know anything about us hopefully."

"EOU is definitely a team that I've looked at that this team is going to be very similar to," said Saints head coach Dave Thorvilson. "They've got two very prolific goal scorers. EOU did that as well, and they only scored one goal in two games. So I'm hoping that is something we continue doing is having strong defense."
