Saints Womens Hoops off to Hot Start

HELENA -

The Carroll women have had a hot start to the season going 5-0, and taking down two teams ranked in the top 15 over the weekend.

The Saints are currently ranked 24th in the nation and were picked fourth in the conference in the preseason poll mostly due to their young roster. Carroll only has three seniors and one junior, to go with four sophomores and three freshman. But with quality wins so early in the season the Saints may have proven that though they're young in years, they are already a contending team within the Frontier Conference.

"That's the exact reason why we play these games," said Saints head coach Rachelle Sayers. "And we want to play games that are going to challenge us. We want to play teams that we feel like are some of the best teams in the country. And to come away with a win is a huge accomplishment."

"I think it shows that we were pretty underestimated, like we do have a lot of young girls," said Saints sophomore post Michaela Dowdy. "And so it just shows that some people were like 'they're young,' they don't know what to expect from us, and I think this weekend we just proved that we can be great."
