Rob Ash out as Bobcats Head Coach

Posted: Updated:

Montana State University is parting ways with head coach of Bobcats football, Rob Ash.

In a press conference Monday, Athletic Director Peter Fields says he felt the program wasn't maintaining expectations.

"The season was hard for everyone. It was hard for Rob, hard for the players and fans," Fields told reporters.

"We had really high expectations this year. From Rob to student athletes, to the fan base."

"I truly believe we should be in the top 10. We shouldn't win a title every year but be competing for it. "

Fields says Offensive Coordinator Tim Cramsey is the point person, and will be a guy players go to for temporary basis.

Fields says his search for a new coach is beginning immediately and assistant coaches can apply for the job, which Cramsey reportedly plans to do. Fields says he would like to have replacement in 10-14 days.

"Rob is a competitor, good person. He is invested in what he does and believes in what he does. Rob was disappointed," said Fields. "We had a discussion. I'll leave it at that. "

Ash will meet with players sometime on Monday. The Athletic Department will meet with them after. "I'm sure some players will be upset and some won't be upset. Similar to fans," Fields said.

Ash, 64, has been head coach since 2007.
