Belt Boys, Girls Look to Contend for Title

Posted: Updated:

This year could be a much bigger challenge for the Belt boys after losing a handful of key seniors that includes all-state guard Parker McCaferty. But the Huskies do return a couple of talented players that include senior Matt Metrione and all-stater Koltin Haugrose. Repeat is certainly in the conversation for this team but it's not their main focus.

"I think it's on our minds for sure but we got to take it game by game too," says Metrione. "We can't get ahead of ourselves. Just go game by game."

I think the big thing is that we're 0-0 and that last season is over," says head coach Kyle Paulson. "Not to focus necessarily on what we did last year. That's something that we can certainly acknowledge and celebrate a little bit but not too much because it's a new season and we're starting from scratch."

The Belt girls on the other hand are motivated after their bid for the 4-peat fell short last year. The Lady Huskies return nearly their entire roster after only losing one senior and the current senior class played on the Huskies team that completed the 3--peat in 2014. Belt returns all their leading scorers from last year which includes Kerstyn Pimperton, Addy Martin and Dani Urick. The team feels confident in the fact they have so many seniors.

"I hope our chemistry still stays the same. I feel like we'll bond more as a team," says Pimperton. "Keeping up the high defense and everything. We definitely want to make it back to State and getting back to the championship game is definitely what we're aiming for."

"We're pretty much the same team, just losing our one Senior," says Martin. "We're more experienced this year and we're used to playing with each other so I think we're just going be stronger from here."
