Senior Standout: Power's Seth Kitchin

Posted: Updated:

Power high school's Seth Kitchin is always doing something. He plays four sports to include football, basketball, track and baseball, and his list of commitments and achievements is too long to fit on one page.

"It's a pretty hectic schedule. I just strive to take on everything. I want to be that leadership role," said senior Seth Kitchin.

In his senior year alone, he serves as student council president, class president, has a 4.0 grade point average, plus he fits in time to do community service, even while playing sports. He sets quite an example.

"Overall, he's such a great leader. 4.0 in the classroom, quarterback of the team, best shooter, best player we probably have on our basketball team. He's just a tremendous leader on and off the floor," said teammate Chase Rossmiller.

Seth started at quarterback as a junior and senior for Power/Dutton-Brady, which he finished his career with close to 2,800 passing yards and 46 touchdowns. He also tied a Titans record with six touchdowns passes in a single game last season. It makes sense that his football coach thinks the world of him.

"I don't know if you could ask for a better kid," said Titans head football coach Joe Schmidt. "Just outstanding leadership. On task all the time. He's the kind of kid that you would like to have as your own son."

Power's new head basketball coach, Griff Bye, says he sees Seth as a leader on his team.

"Very mature kid for a senior. I see him talking to the younger kids a lot and players. Really, very helpful at practice, good attitude, good kid," said head basketball coach Griff Bye.

Seth will finish his prep athletic career very soon, and reality has already set in.

"It really hit me when football season ended. Now that basketball season is here, I realized you just got to cherish every moment you step on the floor or on the field," said Kitchin.

In the future, he hopes to focus on baseball. Seth's extensive high school resume shows, he's on the right track to success after he leaves Power high school.
