Helena, Capital Ready for Crosstown Wrestling Round One

Posted: Updated:

The Helena High Bengals have entered the year knowing they'd have a bit of a youth movement, and that has shown as they've used their first two duals to grow. The Bengals youth is mostly at their lower weights, but also have a pair of undefeated wrestlers with Noah Manibusan at 145, and Hayden Schrull at 170. So for the Bengals, they see their advantage in the higher weights against their cross town rivals

"Our strengths are probably in our upper weights, where all of our older guys are," said Bengals senior 182 pound wrestler Caiden Crawford. "All their returning people are in the middle-lower weights so I think it's going to be a battle."

"When we go down it gives us more confidence to come back up," said Noah Manibusan. "Not a lot of teams are expecting a lot out of us, so we're going to show them."

On the other side of town the Capital Bruins will be looking to prove they're the team to beat in the capitol city after snapping their six year cross town losing streak last season. But they did that on the road, and this year will be looking to get a win at home. The Bengals beat the Bruins 44-21 in the "Bears Den" last year, but feel that another year of experience, along with their home field advantage should give them the edge this time.

"I think it's honestly a lot to our fans," said Bruins sophomore 145 pound wrestler AJ McBroom. "Our fans get us pumped. We get a take down, we hear them yelling for us, it just pushes us to do a lot more."

"Cross town at home is so cool," said Bruins heavyweight sophomore Sheldon Flatland. "All your people show up, and it's easy for them to come so you have an atmosphere that's loud. And the light's pretty cool so you have a unique environment."
