St. Peter's Helps Helena Food Share Distribute Healthy Christmas Dinners
Helena Food Share and St.Peter's hospital teamed up to give a healthful holiday for members of the community experiencing hunger.
Today, Helena Food Share began their Christmas meal distribution and served over 800 families in the first day. This year, the food share not only received nutritious donations from St. Peter's hospital but had help from doctors and nurses volunteering as well.
Every year Helena Food Share distributes turkeys and all the fixings for holiday meals. St. Peter's will be trimming Helena Food Share's holiday turkeys with fresh, healthful fruits and vegetables for 1,200 families this Christmas.
The donation especially makes an impact in the winter months as even local growers cannot make contributions to the food share.
"That gift from St. Peter's will allow us to provide some fresh fruit and vegetables and some lean protein during the January,
February months when things are a little bit less busy here and people still have need," said
Day adds that nutritious food should not be a luxury.
The donation will add fresh produce and lean protein to food distribution for as many as 1,500 families in January and February.
