Great Falls Boys Basketball Crosstown Preview

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls High Bison enter the first crosstown basketball game with a 5-2 overall record and as the third highest scoring team in the state (64.3 ppg). Junior post Brendan Howard is the only player in the state that is currently averaging a double-double with 26.3 points and 11.5 rebounds (both rank first in the state). Howard has had two years of crosstown as a starter so head coach Bob Howard says tomorrow will be a good experience for his young squad.

"For us being young, and only one guy that's played one crosstown game with significant minutes, it'd be huge," says coach Howard. "Get some confidence, get out there and get the rest of the season."

"We're super pumped up," says Senior Keaton Burcham. "This is my first last crosstown game. I know all the seniors are super pumped."

The Rustlers will enter the game seeking their first crosstown win since the 2014 state tournament where they actually went 3-for-3 against Great Falls High on the season. CMR is 3-4 overall on the season but 1-0 in league play. The team acknowledges that Brendan Howard could reach his average in the game but they're hoping to challenge the rest of his teammates.

"To be honest with you, I know he's going to get his 20," says head coach John Cislo. "We gotta make sure, the other guys we contest shots. If we can keep those guys in check, which is easier said than done, and get help on Howard, we'll get it done."

"We just have to not take plays off," says Sophomore Sam Vining. "Make it difficult as possible. Try to deny ball. Do whatever we can to make it tough."

Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Great Falls High.
