Havre High's Warp Signs with Carroll Basketball

Posted: Updated:

Havre High senior standout Dane Warp has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Carroll College, head coach Carson Cunningham said Friday.

Warp’s list of accolades on the hardwood is impressive. He was twice named First-Team All-State, a three-time First-Team All-Conference honoree, a two-time Great Falls Tribune Super State recipient and during his junior year earned first-team All-USA Today Montana.

He led Class A basketball in scoring each of the last two seasons. He averaged 23 points per game his junior year and 23.7 points per game his sophomore season.

His honors in the classroom are just as exciting, he is first in his class with a 4.0 GPA and is a three-time Academic All-State Performer in Basketball. He hopes to be a pre-med major.

He was also stellar on the football field where he broke the State record for touchdowns, passing yards and total yards. A four-year starter, he received national attention and NCAA Division I offers for the gridiron, including attention from Ivy League schools.

"I'm thrilled to be able to call Dane Warp a Fighting Saint,” head coach Carson Cunningham said. “Dane's athletic and academic accomplishments are astounding. First of all, he has a 4.0 GPA and is first in his class. Carroll's nationally-recognized pre-med program was very appealing to him. On the hardwood, he's on pace to lead the state in scoring for a third year in a row. He was on the USA Today's 1st team all state for Montana as a junior. Oh, and he holds all-time Montana state quarterback records in football. I could go on and on.”

Warp, a 6-4, 190 pound shooting guard is on pace to again lead all of Class A basketball in scoring but his acumen in the classroom has been noted by the Havre community.

“He’s a 4.0 student. Dane has been very successful on the playing field and courts but he’s also been incredibly successful in the classroom,” Havre High athletic director Dennis Murphy told the Great Falls Tribune during football season.

Cunningham, himself a former Academic All-American at Purdue, is thrilled to continue to add to his team’s success on the court and in the classroom.

‘It's really wild when you think about what he's accomplished at this early stage in his life,” he said. “I'm excited about the prospect of watching him continue to grow and develop into a dynamic young man as a Carroll College Fighting Saint, and am grateful that the Carroll Men's Basketball Program gets to be a part of it."
