Voyagers Announce New Staff for 2016

Posted: Updated:

The Voyagers are proud to announce a number of changes in the coaching staff for the 2016 season. Tommy Thompson will take the reins for the 2016 Voyagers as the new manager. Matt Zaleski has been named the Pitching Coach, and Willie Harris has been named the Hitting Coach.

Thompson led the Kannapolis Intimidators in 2015 and has been a minor league manager or coach since 1988. Thompson is a former minor league baseball player with a career spanning from 1979 to 1988. Thompson has managed in the White Sox organization ever since 2011 with the Intimidators and the Winston-Salem Dash. He has posted a 349-341 record while with the White Sox organization as manager.

Zaleski just finished an 11 year minor league career that began in Great Falls back in 2004 where he posted a 1-1 record and a 3.35 ERA in 24 games. He finished his playing career in Charlotte where he is currently their all-time leader in games started.

Harris last played in the MLB in 2012. He had a twelve year career in the major leagues playing for seven different organizations. Most memorably, he was a member of the 2005 World Champion White Sox. Throughout his major league career, he played in a total of 1,046 games and had over 2,441 at bats during that time span.

Also of note the Voyagers 2015 manager Cole Armstrong is now the manager for the Kannapolis Intimidators and former manager Ryan Newman will lead the Birmingham Barons in 2016. Newman was the manager for the 2011 Pioneer League Champion Great Falls Voyagers. Brian Drahman, after seven seasons with the Great Falls Voyagers, is now the pitching coach for the Intimidators. First year coach in 2015, Justin Jirschele, has also moved up to the Intimidators as their new Hitting Coach.
