Bighorns Say Head Coach Jonasson Taking Leave of Absence

Posted: Updated:

Jon Jonasson has been absent from the bench each of the past two games for the Helena Bighorns on what the organization is calling a leave of absence on his part. Now in those two games assistants Craig Reinhardt and Blake Mendenhall have filled in as the head coach, but players say this isn't anything they should concern themselves about. It doesn't matter who's on the bench, they're just ready for a playoff push.

"It is just another sense of adversity throughout the team," said Bighorns forward Brandon Mills. "We take it one day at a time, and we're just playing for ourselves right now. At the end of the day we've got to win hockey games for our team."

"That's what a hockey team is, you get adversity and kind of take it and run with it," said Bighorns forward Matt Blassic. "We haven't taken any steps back with it, we just keep moving forward."

"Pretty much we've just been coming out here controlling what we can control on the ice," said Mendenhall. "Just focusing on hard work, getting back to the hockey that the Bighorns need to play. We kind of stepped away from it a little bit there, but we're getting back on the roll here just keeping everyone focused."

Earlier today ABC Fox Montana's Jake spoke with Bighorns owner Oren Koules who said he did not wish to make a comment on the coaching decision at this time.
