Helena Lady Bengals Balanced Offense Proving Successful

Posted: Updated:
HELENA -

The Helena Lady Bengals offense is designed to make all five players on the court a threat. And they know what that means for opposing teams.

"It means that we're unstoppable," said Lady Bengals junior forward Taelyr Krantz. "If you shut one person down then another person is going to pick up the slack. We're just going to keep coming at you from every angle, and you're not going to be able to stop us."

All five of the Helena starters average at least seven points per game, with Taelyr Krantz leading the way at 9.9. It's that combined effort that has made this year's squad tough to beat.

"They just love playing with each other," said Lady Bengals head coach Eric Peterson. "They don't care that 'I get my 15 points per game.'"

"We have girls on the bench, we have girls in the starting line up that are going to go off one game, and they might not go off the next game," said Lady Bengals sophomore guard Kamden Hilborn. "But we have other girls that are willing to step up."

Part of that effectiveness on offense is a result of every girl playing their part. No one tries to do things that aren't asked of them.

"Everyone pretty much plays every role," said Krantz. "We all know we can score, we all know that we can play defense, and it really helps everybody out knowing that you're not a starter, or you're not coming off the bench, you're just coming in to play and help the team."

"As coaches I think that's one of our responsibilities is to assign roles, and so far this year the girls have really bought into that and have stepped up."

Through just ten games this season the Lady Bengals have already matched their win total from last season. And while they may not be unstoppable yet, they've proven they're not just a threat to score, but a threat to contend for a state title.
