UGF Track & Field Signs CMR Duo

Posted: Updated:

In one fell swoop UGF track & field created a strong link to the local CM Russell High School program and added two impact freshman to its roster. UGF throwing coach Alan Cress signed CMR standouts Shana Cosby and Trevor Pepin to the Argo’s 2016 recruiting class on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

“This is something big for our throws program and for CMR track & field, and really for the city of Great Falls,” Cress said. “To have two great athletes commit to staying here and throwing for UGF is great step.”

Both Cosby and Pepin are two time state championship qualifiers in the javelin throw and both still have their senior seasons left to increase that number. Cosby said she is expecting by far her best high school season yet before she joins UGF.

“I’m just really excited. I like the college and I like the town,” Cosby said. “I already have improved a lot since last season. I feel like I’m going to go a lot further this year. I stopped playing other sports this year and just started to focus on track.”

She will join teammate and friend Trevor Pepin, who is the reigning AA Division Men’s State Champion in the javelin. The two have been working together at CMR and said they are thrilled to not only continue competing in their hometown, but also to continue competing together.

“We’re really close. We’re always helping each other out at practice and making each other strive to do better,” Pepin said of him and Cosby. “It’s pretty awesome. I’m happy that I made the decision to stay here. Now I can watch the rest of my family grow up and play in high school while I get to continue my passion with some great coaches and great athletes.”

The signings wrap up a big day for UGF track & field which started with the signing of All-State Montana runner Baylee Green.
