Argos and Lights Prepare for Second Meeting of the Season

Posted: Updated:

The last time the Argos and Lights met head to head on the mat, the finish was so close the winner was decided based on criteria. We can probably expect another close one Wednesday night in Havre.

The Lights took the first meeting of the season 19-18 back on November 12th in Great Falls. Northern lost two days later to North Idaho College, but is undefeated since. The Lights have a huge dual on Friday in Havre against NCAA power Iowa, and while they know they can't look past UGF, they aren't treating Wednesday's meeting any differently then they do the others.

"It's just another match to us. We're preparing just like any other duel. We know what we need to clean up. Just working on timing, Working on what we need to do to be assertive in matches. So we're just cleaning some things," Lights head coach Tyson Thivierge says.

"Everyone just gotta wrestle to their potential," Lights Heavyweight Toby Cheff adds.  "We go guys, we got talent, They're going to match up with us in a couple places but we we do what we're supposed to do, we'll be fine."

As for the Argos, they are coming off a 24-16 win on Senior night over visiting Embry-Riddle, but have struggled to a 6-10 record in duals this season. The Argos say being healthy and focused will help them on the mat against Northern come Wednesday.

"We struggled as a dual team, but you know if we get to back to where we were at the beginning of the season. We've got our guys that are original starters, and if we take it to them and wrestle hard a full seven minutes, you know good things will happen for us for sure," Argos senior Taylor Vaughn says.

"You are going to see our guys way more focused. They're dialed in. They know what they're good at. They know what positions they need to be to succeed at. They're going to be focused in their matches a lot more," Argos head coach Caleb Schaeffer added.

The Argos won last years meeting in Havre on the way to a season sweep of their rivals. Northern hopes to return the favor Wednesday night. Wrestling starts at 7pm and we'll have highlights on KFBB.
