All-Class State Wrestling Preview

Posted: Updated:

The state wrestling tournament begins tomorrow in Billings and some of our local wrestlers were excited to compete in the two-day event.

"A little bit of nerves, but a lot of excitement," said Helena High wrestler Nick Moreni. "It's a big tournament, it'll be fun."

"It feels pretty super," said Townsend wrestler Justin Theriault. "I got this Superman shirt because I felt like I fit right in."

"It's one of the best places in the state to wrestle," said Choteau wrestler Denver Krohne. "It's the best of the best."

"There's a lot more to this year," said Chinook wrestler Tate Niederigger. "My good friend Jesse isn't here this year. We want to win it for him."

And that business starts with testing out the mats. Today the wrestlers got the chance to try and shake some of those last second nerves as they prepare for tomorrow's first round.

"It's a great opportunity to get a feel of the gym and get to wrestle on these mats," said Fergus wrestler Alex Wickens. "It's just a great experience."

"You get to get some weight off so you get to eat some food the night before and drink some water," said Havre wrestler Chase Stokes. "But all the freshmen getting used to this atmosphere is a plus."

"The Metra is huge, and that can be really intimidating," said Niederigger. "So just getting to practice here, and get all the kinks out like you said is really helpful.
