Carroll Softball Thrilled to Practice Outside Before Opener

Posted: Updated:

The Carroll Saints softball team is only two days away from it's season opener when they travel to West Covina, California for the NAIA So Cal Classic. The Saints enter their opener feeling much farther ahead of schedule than they were at this time last year, mostly due to the weather. The warm temperatures have allowed Carroll to hold eight outdoor practices leading up to the tournament.

"It's definitely been weird being out here in the middle of February, being able to practice on a real field," said Saints sophomore first baseman Allison Bayer. "But it's been a lot of fun getting actual ground balls on the dirt, rather than in the gym."

"Actually practicing on a field where you can see where stuff is going to happen in a game, it's a lot more game-like," said Saints senior short stop Justine Taylor. "Grounders are a lot more game-like, and outfielders get to see it in the actual sky, not in a gym where it's probably rolling on the floor."

The Saints play a double header on Friday. Carroll will face San Diego Christian at 1 PM, then Hope College at 3. They then face nationally ranked Vanguard and Biola on Saturday. Carroll's first home game will be March 18th against Southern Oregon.
