Carroll College becomes the first school in Montana to be Fair Trade Certified
Carroll College in Helena is the 31st college in the nation to become fair trade certified.
The school has taken part in the fair trade campaign which is a new initiative by fair trade united states, a non-profit organization that certifies trade products in the united states, to promote equal wages.
Fair trade is an economic practice that ensures those that produce growth, like chocolate and coffee receive fair wages for their product.
Carroll College has been working to become a fair trade certified organization for the last three years.
In order to accomplish this five steps must be taken, students have to show an interest and form a committee, at least two fair trade products have to be sold at each retail location on campus.
The campus must host events, like markets and educate its students.
Lastly, the school president signs the resolution into effect.
Carroll became the first school in Montana to be fair trade certified on November sixth.
