Townsend Boys, Girls Ready for Runs at Divisionals

Posted: Updated:

The Townsend boys are the 5B's third seed at divisionals, and open tomorrow at 3PM against Shepherd. The Bulldogs advanced because of a strong defensive performance against Manhattan in the third place game two weekends ago in Belgrade. Townsend allowed just 17 points in the final 3 quarters of play, including none in the second quarter, and it's that kind of performance that gives them confidence going into divisionals.

"It's a huge confidence booster," said Bulldogs senior guard Jace Lewis. "We came back on Saturday and played really well actually. We just need to carry this momentum going into divisionals."

"I think we just came together as a team more, and started moving the ball, and scored on opportunities open to us," said Bulldogs sophomore forward Easton Hatfield.

The Townsend girls enter the Southern B divisional as the 5B's top seed, and will play Red Lodge in the opening round at noon. After rebuilding a season ago, this years team won the district tournament title despite being young! Townsend has only one senior, and three juniors on the roster. The goal is to make it to state, but to also soak up all the post-season experience they can!

"It's definitely really exciting because we do have a really young team," said Lady Bulldogs sophomore guard Abby Leachman. "A lot of varsity experience for the next couple of years. We don't have just one or two strong players. I think as a whole, we definitely have a lot of threats."

"I'm really excited for it, and I think we'll be great for the next few years, and on and on," said Lady Bulldogs freshman forward Tavia Rooney. "We have some younger girls that will be coming, and they'll be really great too, and so I'm really excited for it."
