Browning Girls Excited to be Return to State

Posted: Updated:

It's not a good thing for the competition whenever the Browning Girls make an appearance at the state tournament. Their history speaks for itself, as they've competed for a trophy in their last three appearances. They got 4th in 2005 but took home 3rd in 2006 and 2013. Their current leading scorer, Tiara Gilham, was on the last team to win hardware and she's glad to be back.

"It means a lot," says Gilham. "All we ever wanted was a state championship. We came up short for a couple years but we're coming back and ready to show the state what we have."

Their opponent in the first round will be Frenchtown, who placed 4th last year. The Broncs are a team that have some height, but the Lady Indians feel prepared thanks to the opponents they've saw at the Eastern Super Divisional.

"They're similar to Miles City height wise. They like to press," says head coach Ray Augare. "It isn't really anything we haven't seen. We're just kind of going over out stuff that we've been doing."

Browning enters the state tournament with some momentum thanks to a historical finish last week. The Lady Indians became the first team ever to win the Eastern Super Divisional, which had an atmosphere similar to what they will see in Belgrade.

"It really boosted our confidence," says Senior Tayler CalfBossRibs. "just keep playing how we're playing. Keep playing as a team, how we have been playing. Just run the ball."

"Just winning a divisional in general is pretty big for us," says Gilham. It's been awhile since we took home a trophy. I feel like we have a lot of confidence going in. We just have to show up and play."

Of course Browning plans to do more than just show up. They plan to add to their history of hardware by hopefully taking home the biggest trophy of them all.
