2016 KFBB to KC: MSU Northern Falls Into OT

Posted: Updated:

It was a tough day for the MSU Northern Skylights, who after one quarter looked like they were going to run away with this one, but defensive adjustments made by the Ravens in the second quarter led to 21 turnovers, ending up being more than the Lights could afford.

"The half court pressure did bother us a little bit," said Skylights head coach Chris Mouat. "I thought it took us out of rhythm. I don't know that we turned the ball over too much against that. A lot of our turnovers tonight were unforced, and that was the frustrating part."

"They started to help a little more on everyone, but that left my teammates open, sometimes I just didn't find them," said Skylights junior guard Natalee Faupel. "They were a solid defensive team."

Despite winning the overall rebound battle with 39 boards, the Skylights gave up a pair of key offensive rebounds in the final minutes, which felt like back breakers.

"Those are daggers when you fight for a 30 second possession and then don't get the d-board, and they get it and score," said Coach Mouat. "Those are tough, but credit their team."

"We knew we needed a stop and a board, and we got the stop, and we didn't get the board," said Faupel. "So that's huge and it takes a lot out of you."

The Skylights will only lose a pair of seniors from this year's team and will return all five of their starters as they head to the off-season now 23-9, and looking forward to making a run next year.
