"Shark Tank" Hosted in Havre Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
HAVRE -

On Wednesday in Havre, five small businesses jumped into a Montana version of the shark tank hoping the judges would take a bite of their company ideas. The competition was part of the Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC) “Invest in Success” conference.

The competition started out with 13 companies and on Wednesday the final five competed for as much as $5,000 to help boost their business. Second placed was awarded $2,500 and third place was awarded $1,500.

Ron Turner  pitched his product, “Anchor Yanker.”

"I have invented a device that hooks onto a rope--you can slide it up and down the rope, rotate the handle, and essentially you have a handle on a rope,” Turner said. “I invented it for lifting anchors in drift boats."

Leon Beachy and Shane Etzwiler teamed up to present a product that mounts to any video camera or GoPro system to a rifle or bow. It’s built with a recoil mechanism so it can bounce when you take a shot, and smoothly track your shot as well.

Another pair, Diane and Kevin DeWitt created, “Hay Bunk.” It’s a mobile mechanism that attaches to your trailer and used to hold hay for your horses.

“Not only does it save your horse trailer from typical hay bag, hay nets that ruin the paint on the side of your trailer, but it keep the horse safe, convenient and less feed on the ground," Kevin said.

Up next, Sophia and Olivia Brown came up with a food base lip gloss the contains non-toxic ingredients.

"The name of our company is ‘My Sister's Lip Gloss.’ We sell food base lip balm in sparkly containers. It is for little kids that want to feel pretty and it’s healthier," Sophia said.

Andrea Michael is the final contestant who pitched her product, “Shellter.”

"I I make a zip in coat extender for pregnancy and baby wearing,” Michael said. “I came up with the idea because I have a 6 month old daughter and I wear he on me and I need something to keep both of us warm this winter."

Drum roll.

Turner won the $5,000 for his “Anchor Yanker” product.
