Great Falls Ski and Board Club's Mannequin Jump & Pond Skim

Head on up to Showdown Montana Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd for the Great Falls Ski and Board Club's annual Mannequin Jump, and to experience their newest event- a pond skim! 

On Saturday watch as several crazy, wacky and unique mannequins are launched off one gigantic jump. Will they land safely or will they crash and burn? Come on up to find out!

On Sunday, watch as several skiers and snowboarders attempt to make it across the pond. Will they make it or crash into the icey water?

Both events start after the lifts close, which is roughly 4:30 p.m. Both events are free to enter. Bring the family up and take part in this ongoing tradition.

If you would like to enter your mannequin, you will need to register in the bar area between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mannequins must be set up on the deck by the close of registration so judges can rate them for best of show.

Mannequin Jump Rules:

  • Rule #1 Mannequins named George are barred from competition.
  • Rule #2 Mannequins must utilize skis/snowboard in their construction.
  • Rule #3 Mannequins must have no more than three skis/snowboards.
  • Rule #4 No Mannequin shall be naked or obscene in appearance excepting those dressed as normal Ski Patrollers will be allowed a waiver from the “Obscene In Appearance” clause due to an obvious, unavoidable conflict.
  • Rule #5 Weight cannot exceed 150 lbs. (you must be able to tow your creation to the top of the jumping hill)
  • Rule #6 It is encouraged to build a mannequin that is animated however, the public must not be placed in harms way. Those using pyrotechnics or fire DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK and must ensure their “effects” do not place anyone in danger.
  • Rule #7 Humans may not impersonate a mannequin. All mannequins are subject to a hammer test.
    • You are responsible for cleaning up your mannequin and all your parts after the event is over

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Biggest Bad Air
  • Distance
  • Crowd Pleasers & Engineering (Rube Goldberg Award)
  • Best of Show (judged while on the patio)
  • Yard Sale

A distinguished panel of judges will determine winners and all entries will be validated by a Ski Club/Showdown officer.

Pond Skim Rules:

  • If you would like to partake in the shenanigans, meet just inside the main part of the lodge and there will be sign up sheets available. It is strongly suggested participants wear swimming trunks and/ or any equipment you do not mind getting wet.

    An early morning stabbing Friday sent one man to the hospital with several stab wounds. According to the Helena Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of 11th Avenue just after 1:30am.  A press release states there was a physical altercation involving several people, with one man being stabbed several times with a knife.  Everyone involved has been identified; no arrests have yet been made. The investigation is ongoing.

    Just before 11:00 Monday evening, an altercation shut down the parking lot to 2J's Fresh Market on Smelter Avenue in Great Falls.  Great Falls Police, Great Falls Fire Rescue, and Great Falls Emergency Services all responded. As of 11:30pm, the parking lot is still blocked off by crime scene tape with several officers on the scene.
