A former anti-union operative whom Montana officials allege ran a shadow campaign for select republican candidates, says he never helped a candidate in exchange for support of right to work policies once they were elected.
Christian Lefer gave a sworn statement in a federal lawsuit Monday, three days after a jury found state representative Art Wittich coordinated with Lefer and the national right to work committee in 2010
Commissioner of Political Practices Jonathan Motl says Wittich was one of 14 republican candidates in Montana who received the services.
Lefer's affidavit is the first public response he's made to the allegations.
Wittich could be removed from office for receiving illegal corporate contributions from a web of organizations spearheaded by lefer and right to work.
