Americans Head Coach Heimel Signs to Stay for 2 More Years

Hockey fans in Great Falls can breathe a giant sigh of relief. Americans head coach and general manager Jeff Heimel has signed a new two year contract.

Heimel confirmed his decision to remain in the Electric City with KFBB on Tuesday. He says his contract was up at the end of the season, and that he agreed to the new pact for several reasons, including his relationship with owner Jim Keough.

"Good ownership is hard to find," Heimel said. "I am very appreciative at how the Keough family has treated my family."

Keough told KFBB that ownership is, "Very pleased and happy that he (Heimel) will be with us for another two years."

Heimel also talked about his desire to complete the task of bringing home a Silver Cup title to Great Falls, where he and his wife were married, and his two kids were born.

He also mentioned the growth of the program. The Americans have improved every year in the four seasons Heimel has been in Great Falls, advancing all the way to the Silver Cup semifinals this past season after going 0-3 at the tournament the year before.

The Great Falls Tribune was the first to report Heimel had agreed to an extension.
