Saints Softball Prepping for Cascade Conference Tournament

Posted: Updated:

As the Carroll Saints softball team prepares for next weeks Cascade Conference Tournament, the Saints are in a pretty good spot as the one seed out of the Eastern Division of the conference, and also with a first round bye. But they won't even know who they play until they get to the tournament as Oregon Tech and UGF have to playoff before they'll even find out who's going to get the right to play Carroll. But the Saints say that's not a problem at all, because they were going to spend this week and next week just focusing on themselves.

"I think it's actually kind of a positive," said Saints senior shortstop Justine Taylor. "I don't think you want to over-think anything, and when you know who you're playing you're probably going to over-think it a little more."

"It's definitely different, just because you're not focused on practicing a certain way for a certain team," said Saints sophomore first baseman Allison Bayer. "Just going into it we know that if we prepare the way we should, and play the way we know we can, I think we're going to be okay no matter what."

Carroll's schedule throughout the tournament has them in the late games all three days as long as they keep winning, meaning they'll not only get an opportunity to rest a bit more, but watch their competition.

"That helps in the preparation," said Saints head coach Aaron Jackson. "Kids can get up, get some breakfast, we can get a good lunch in, get to the field, and have time. Definitely a good draw, and we like our draw as far as teams go."

"I just think it's going to benefit us a lot," said Taylor. "No team likes to get up early, and play that early game. I think it is nice to watch games, and kind of not be that first game of the tournament. That's a little more pressure than the other games."

The Saints are really excited to get to Ashland. The two words I heard the most at practice today here at practice are "national tournament." The Saints really feel that they have an opportunity to win this tournament, and get themselves to the big dance. I guess we'll see next weekend.
