National 'Adopt a Shelter Pet' Day Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Saturday is National "Adopt a Shelter Pet Day" and you can find plenty of furry friends who need homes, right here in the Electric City. In fact, the Maclean Animal Adoption Center has an abundance of pets waiting for their forever homes.

There are 38 cats up for adoption.. and two dogs including a two-year-old Terrier-Akita-Lab mix named Airy. Since the *center* opened late last August, more than 145 cats and 115 dogs have found new homes. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, more than 7.5 million pets enter animal shelters each year nationwide, and of those pets roughly 2.7 million are euthanized and 2.7 million adopted.

"We want everyone to come out and look at our animals and there are lots of benefits to adopting a shelter pet. One is that you find a forever home for that animal and you save them.," said Erin Doran, marketing coordinator for Maclean Animal Adoption Center.

The Maclean Animal Adoption Center will be open for the event Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. The Great Falls Animal Falls. Kittens younger than 6 months old are $75, cats 6 months to 9 years old are $55, senior cats are $35, and there is a barn cat special of two of $50 with spay/neuter and microchip. Puppies less than one year old are $200, dogs 1-6 years old are $140, senior dogs older than 6 years are up to $120 and purebreds are up to $300. For a full list of available pets, go here.  The Great Falls Animal Shelter also has pets up for adoption, and you can view their full list of pets here.
