Lewistown's Southworth Excited to Join Argos Softball Program
The Fergus High School's softball team is off to a great start to the season and one of their senior leaders hopes to end her high school career on a high note before playing collegiately next year.
Catcher Karlie Southworth signed a letter of intent in February to play for the University of Great Falls. Right now, Southworth's focus is on helping lead the Golden Eagles to the state tournament. After beating Laurel on Tuesday 5-4, Fergus is now 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play so it's postseason chances look promising. However, regardless of how well Lewistown plays down the stretch, the season will come to an end this month. So, Karlie's happy she'll be able to continue her career at the next level.
"It's very exciting. I never thought that I would make it to this level and now that I have, I'm just thanking my teammates and coach for getting me to this point where I wanted to be," Karlie says.
"The biggest thing with here she's got a lot of athletic ability, there's a lot talent in there. But just to be able to see them compete past us is just awesome and it feels good as a coach," Fergus head coach Mike Mangold adds.
Karlie and the Golden Eagles are next in action on Friday against Park.
