Havre High Product Named Flathead's New Girls Basketball Coach

Posted: Updated:

Former Havre High Basketball standout Tricia Dean has been named as the new girls basketball head coach at Flathead High.

Dean, formerly known as Tricia Samson, will take over for Lisa Hendrickson, who resigned last March. The Bravettes were 11-52 under Hendrickson and 4-17 in the 2015-16 season.

Tricia comes from a family that has a rich coaching history. Her father Mark has had well documented success as a Football head coach in both High School and in College. Her brother Kyle is the current football head coach at Flathead while her Husband, Travis, just finished a season as the Quarterback coach at Havre High. Tricia is related to the famous Petrino family through her Mom's side.

Tricia has her own decorated resume. She was an All-Conference selection in her Junior and Senior years as a Pony and just finished her third year as an assistant coach at Havre High. Tricia tells SWX that being around such a strong coaching family has helped prepare her for her first ever head coaching job.

"I think just growing up in that atmosphere, where we were always around sports," says Dean. "He [Mark] was coaching and we were always around practices. I guess I feel proud to follow in his footsteps. It's really exciting. I feel really grateful and honored to have the opportunity and I'm really excited to get over there."

Dean met with the Flathead Players on Tuesday.
