Gas prices go down, drivers go up on 4th of July weekend

Posted: Updated:

Independence Day weekend gas prices are the cheapest in over a decade.

Gas is at about $2.30 across the state. AAA says that price means you're saving 48 cents a gallon compared to last 4th of July.  But even though you're saving money driving this year, it's also important to stay safe on the roadways.

“Everybody wants to have fun,” AAA insurance agent SuAnn Konesky said. “It is a celebration of our freedom, but just remember, do not drink and drive. Drive sober, [have a] designated driver.”

AAA says to watch out for pedestrians and motorcycles this weekend and pay attention to construction sites. As always, make sure to wear your seat belt and follow the posted speed limit.

It's also smart to get your car checked out before you travel. High heat can cause your battery to die.
