Top-Ranked Great Falls Selects doesn't get Chance at Four-Peat

Posted: Updated:

Choteau's Tristin Achenbach, the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year, had an ERA of .19

CMR had the best hitters in the state.

The two will be a dangerous combination next year when Achenbach transfers to CMR for her Senior year. She will have some strong hitters behind her, including Katie Huisman and Savanna Voyles (who led the state in Runs, Average and tied for Home Runs).

Yet Achenbach has been playing with the CMR girls for years with the Great Falls Selects. Their U18 team is the 3-time defending state champions but they won't get a chance to compete at a state tournament this year because it was canceled. Co-Head coaches Brian Rogers and Justin Robbins were told that other teams didn't sign up.

Instead the selects will try to compete at a State Tournament in another State.

Still, the Selects have been putting up impressive numbers at all their travel ball tournaments. They're 22-3 in four tournaments (all three losses were 2-1) and have won one tournament while placing second in the other three.

Offensively, they're hitting .389 with 171 runs scored and 19 home runs.

Defensively, they've only allowed 23 runs with a .92 ERA and 197 strikeouts.

Below is the roster. Eight girls were on CMR's state title winning squad, along with Achenbach, who won back-to-back B/C Titles.

Savanna Voyles (CMR)
Katie Huisman (CMR)
Laura Poitra (CMR)
Myla Robbins (CMR)
Julianna Gonzales (CMR)
Tristin Achenbach (Choteau/CMR)
Kierstin Evenson (CMR)
Brenna Bushard (CMR)
Maddy Moore (CMR)
Caitlin Soltesz (CMR Graduate)
Kayci Edwards (CMR)
