New proposed science standards for Montana students
New standards for science education have been proposed for kindergarten through twelfth grade in Montana.
According to the Missoulian, the Board of Public Education proposed standards that would better define what Montana students need to learn, and when, although individual schools would still be able to determine the exact curriculum and materials used.
Currently, the standards address what students should know by the end of fourth and eighth grades, and by high school graduation. Under the proposal, the standards would be grouped by elementary grade levels, then middle school and high school.
Public input is being sought and the new standards are slated for approval in the fall.
