7th Annual Big Sky BBQ at Caras Park benefits Montana Food Bank Network
The 7th Annual Big Sky BBQ, hosted by Montana Food Bank Network brought swarms of people to Caras Park Saturday to raise money toward fighting hunger in Montana.
The Montana Food Bank Network operates in 29 of the state's 56 counties.
Organizers say this event is meant to raise awareness, as much as it about raising money.
"Most people don't know that one in seven Montanans struggle with hunger every day, and throughout the year,” said Montana Food Bank Network’s Bill Mathews. “So we're really trying to raise money and get food to people who need it across our state."
Proceeds from this year's gathering will be used toward the food bank's School Backpack Program, as well as the Mail Meal Program, which sends food to people in areas of the state considered to be food deserts. Food deserts are areas where people don’t have convenient access to healthy foods, like one would find at a grocery store.
